NRI Chamber Holiday Open House Generates $12,000 for the Rhode Island Community Food Bank
Lincoln, RI (December 12, 2014) – The Northern Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce hosted its annual Holiday Open House on December 4, 2014, at the Twin River Event Center. With over 350 guests in attendance and 21 table top exhibitors, the NRI Chamber was pleased to present a donation of $3,500 to the RI Community Food Bank through a portion of the proceeds made from the evening’s ticket sales. In addition, due to the generosity of Twin River, a check for $2,500 was also presented. This $6,000 donation was then doubled through the End Hunger Challenge fund, made up of local donors who match contributions to the Food Bank, bringing the total donation to $12,000.
This signature holiday event was generously sponsored by Twin River Casino and the Chamber’s Board of Directors. A portion of the proceeds generated from ticket sales are donated to the RI Community Food Pantries to help provide warm meals to local families this holiday season.
“The Rhode Island Community Food Bank is extremely appreciative of the Northern Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce and Twin River for their $6,000 contribution to help support our work. To know that these funds will also be matched by the End Hunger Challenge fund, doubling the total to $12,000, is truly unbelievable. Because of these gifts, the Food Bank will be able to acquire 18 tons of food for low-income families in northern Rhode Island,” said Andrew R. Schiff, CEO of the Rhode Island Community Food Bank.
Table top exhibitors were also in attendance to display and promote their business, and a silent auction was held. The check was presented by John C. Gregory (President & CEO of the NRI Chamber) and Kim Ward (Director of Public & Community Affairs at Twin River) to Andrew R. Schiff (CEO of the Rhode Island Community Food Bank).
