Newport County Chamber Seeks a Ton of Love to Feed Those in Need

NEWPORT, RI (February 1) – During the month of February, the Newport County Chamber of Commerce will hold their annual “Ton of Love” Food Drive that is dedicated to helping the Feed a Friend Food Pantry at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center in Newport. The food drive, coordinated by the Chamber Ambassador Committee, benefits the food pantry that serves all of Newport County to help ensure those in most need do not go hungry. There are many in our community who depend on the Feed a Friend Food Pantry for their basic nutritional needs. Although many organizations collect food over holiday periods, the Newport County Chamber of Commerce schedules their annual Ton of Love Food Drive at a time when food donations decline, but the need still remains high.

Erin Donovan-Boyle, Executive Director of the Chamber said, “The MLK Community Center is a tremendous asset for the community and the Chamber and its participating businesses are proud to be supportive of the important services they provide to our most vulnerable citizens.”

Many businesses throughout Newport County will have food bins available to collect donations of non-perishable food items from February 1st through February 28th with the goal of collecting a “ton” of food for the food pantry.

More information and locations to drop off donations can be found at NewportChamber.com or by calling 401-847-1600.
