Dr. Patricia Solga Named Senior Advisor at University Orthopedics

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (November 28, 2017) — Today, University Orthopedics (UOI) announces that Dr. Patricia Solga has been named senior advisor to the Chairman of Orthopaedic Surgery on matters concerning diversity and education, beginning on December 31, 2017, and transitioning from clinical practice to administration.

Dr. Solga joined University Orthopedics and the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery in 1990, in helping to create the Division of Pediatric Orthopaedics. She is a fellowship-trained pediatric orthopedic surgeon with a special interest in pediatric trauma. Dr. Solga is also the Orthopedic Director of the Child NeuroDevelopment Center. In addition to her teaching responsibilities she represents the Brown University Orthopaedic Surgery Department as a member of the Post-Graduate Referral Committee and is a board member of the Office of Women in Medicine and Science at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University.

“Dr. Solga has been a pioneer in the field of pediatric orthopedics and we are pleased to have her join the administrative team in the Department of Orthopaedics,” said Edward Akelman, M.D., president of University Orthopedics and Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedics at the Warren Alpert Medical of Brown University.

Reflecting on her time in clinical practice, Dr. Solga recalls the many patients she has helped throughout the years, stating: “It has been a pleasure to provide care and establish relationships with so many people from different walks of life.”

Dr. Solga received her medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine and her undergraduate degree from New York University. She completed her orthopedic residency at Yale School of Medicine and her pediatric orthopedic fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital and Rhode Island Hospital.
