IIARI Young Agents Committee Receives Two Awards at National Leadership Institute

NEWS RELEASE

Warwick, RI (November 26, 2014) – The Young Agents Committee of the Independent Insurance Agents of Rhode Island (IIARI) was recently awarded two outstanding honors by the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America, Inc.  The awards were presented at the Young Agents Leadership Institute, held in Grand Rapids, MI this fall.

The first award received was the “Outstanding Membership Development Award,” which was given to acknowledge their excellent achievement in recruiting and maintaining young agents’ participation in association activities.  The committee was also the recipient of the “Outstanding Breakthrough Award,” which was given in recognition of their outstanding efforts as a committee.

The two-day affair included a full agenda of events that ranged from discussing sales techniques with professional speaker Matt D. Jones to mastering public relation strategies with specialist Jeff Crilley.  Additional events included learning management tips from experienced agents as well as various networking opportunities with other companies and vendor partners throughout the nation.

When asked to speak about their accomplishments, representatives from the Young Agents Committee stated that “In previous years, the young agent program in the association was dormant.  We were proud to be able to use this last year productively by revitalizing the program and creating a new committee.”

The following currently serve on the Young Agents Committee: Chairman Kelly Townsend of Thorp & Trainer, Inc.; Staff liaison Marcia Berthiaume of the Rhode Island Association of Insurance Agents, Inc.; Vrania Coelho of Cross Insurance – RI; Douglas Guilbert of OceanPoint Insurance Agency, Inc.; William Hunt of Cross Insurance – RI; Melanie Lambert of Smith Insurance Group, Inc.; Sarah Lassor of Thorp & Trainer, Inc.; Timothy Mailloux of Gardiner Whiteley Boardman Insurance; Christopher Slocum of The Slocum Agency, Inc.; and Kenneth Thompson, Jr. of Lezaola Thompson Insurance, Inc.

The next Young Agents Leadership Institute event is set to take place in October 2015 at the Roosevelt of New Orleans in Louisiana.
