University Surgical Associates Announces Christine Emmick, MD, FACS to Join Center for Breast Care Team

Providence, RI (June 27, 2016) – Dr. Christine Emmick has joined the Center for Breast Care at University Surgical Associates. As a general surgeon for the past 18 years, Dr. Emmick will focus on the care of patients with both malignant and benign breast disease.

Dr. Emmick has cared for breast care patients in many different settings over the years. She believes the multidisciplinary care (MDC) program at the Center for Breast Care truly services the patients’ medical and emotional needs in the best possible way: “Their care is streamlined as they meet with medical, surgical, and radiation oncology all on the same day.  The embedded tumor board allows for them to leave their first appointment with a concise treatment plan agreed upon by a team of experts.  This all serves to expedite treatment and minimize the mental and emotional stress on the patient. “

University Surgical Associates President, William Cioffi, MD, FACS is pleased to welcome Dr. Emmick to the team: “We are thrilled to have a surgeon of Dr. Emmick’s caliber joining University Surgical Associates.  She has a passion not only for surgery, but for overall patient care, which is of great importance to all our surgeons.”

Dr. Graves, Director at the Center for Breast Care at University Surgical Associates believes Dr. Emmick brings extensive experience and enthusiasm to the Center for Breast Care at Miriam Hospital: “Dr. Emmick is a compassionate surgeon, who has dedicated her career to the treatment of patients with breast disease. She has spearheaded the program at Miriam and works diligently to coordinate the full spectrum of care and the multidisciplinary approach so necessary for breast cancer patients.”

Dr. Emmick grew up in upstate New York and received her undergraduate degree from Johns Hopkins University.  She traveled to Rhode Island for her surgical residency at Brown University in 1993, graduating from Albany Medical College.  Dr. Emmick has extensive experience treating breast disease.  She sees patients at 100 Highland Avenue, Suite 308 in Providence and also at the Breast Oncology Multidisciplinary Clinic at Miriam Hospital. Dr. Emmick resides in Cumberland with her husband, Dr. Michael Belanger, an orthopedic surgeon, and three children.
